Labour calls for one month extension to TPP deadline

Labour will call for a one month extension of the deadline for submissions on the Trans-Pacific Partnership at tomorrow’s select committee, says Labour’s Trade and Export Growth spokesperson David Clark.

“The TPP is a 6000-page document. It is absolutely vital that those who are reviewing the text have the time to make a meaningful submission.

“MPs have been inundated with requests from individuals and groups for an extension, showing the high level of public interest in this process.

“This is a major agreement that must have full Parliamentary scrutiny. For that to happen, fully considered submissions are essential. That takes time.

“An extension of one month is reasonable and I hope the Select Committee will approve my request tomorrow,” says David Clark.
