Protest March Against the GCSB and Related Legislation Bill – Cuba Street (Bucket Fountain) March to Parliament
Today (Saturday 27th) hundreds in Wellington will be meeting at the bucket fountain, Cuba Street at 2pm and marching to Parliament in a Nationwide Day of Action calling on the Government to abandon the GCSB and Related Legislation Bill, close the GCSB, end the `five eyes spying agreement, initiate a public enquiry into the intelligence and security agencies, publically release the names of the 88 people who were illegally spied on and confirm that the GCSB did or didn’t participate in NSA mass surveillance programmes.
“This Communications Security Bureau and Related Legislation Amendment Bill is military grade spying being turned on a civilian population. This legislation, along with the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement poses the greatest threat to our civil liberties and freedom.
It is insidious, it is dangerous, it is fascist and must be abandoned in its entirety”, says the spokesperson for the `Wake Up NZ’ – Wellington protest organising committee, Ariana Paretutanganui-Tamati.
Speeches will commence at Parliament at 3pm. Those confirmed to speak include:
Vikram Kumar – Mega Dotcom
EQC Blogger Marc Krieger – Independent journalist and publisher
Russel Norman – Co-Leader of the Green Party
Joy Liddicoat – Internet NZ, former Human Rights Commissioner
Chris Hipkins – Labour MP – Rimutaka
Thomas Beagle – Tech Liberty, NZ Council of Civil Liberties
Valerie Morse – OASIS
Helen Kelly – NZ Council of Trade Unions
Billy McKee – Green Cross NZ
Ariana Paretutanganui-Tamati – MANA
There will be a surprise activity after the protest.
