The Pacific Partnership Forum is underway, headed by William Maroni, President of the US – NZ Council; NZ Ambassador Mike Moore, and others. It promotes greater trade between NZ and the US. The Forum began with a gala reception at the stunning US Institute of Peace, near the State Department. There were performances by the US and NZ Air Force bands and Te Awhiorangi (Kapa Haka Group). Morning activities began with remarks at the Grand Hyatt Hotel by US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, followed by NZ Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully. Then a series of concurrent panels were held. Topics included cooperation on food security and agricultural innovation; the rebuilding of Christchurch and innovations for cities of the future; technology; life sciences, including better medicines and healthier societies.
